Sea and Me
The Sea and Me began my exploration of being pregnant and birthing my first child in 2013. I became a deep relationship with the ocean while visiting family in San Francisco, imagery which struck a cord in it’s magnificence and also it’s sense of overpowering abandon. Having experienced a deep emotional upheaval after giving birth and attempting to connect the dots of my birthing experience, I found solace in imagining the body as a space of conflict. The series was the first phase of a collaboration that resulted in the pieces Deep Salt Water, and the first images shared with writer Marianne Apostolides, creating the beginning of our artistic exchange.
