SHORE 50

SHORE 50 is a community arts project created as an interactive website installation combining visual art with digital storytelling. As a visual representation of the 50th anniversary of SHORE Centre in Canada, it reflects on and celebrates what has been accomplished, while also setting forth community voices that bring the organization’s hopes and goals into the future. SHORE Centre was founded in 1972 by Kitty Francis, and has provided Sexual Health Education for all of Waterloo Region since its inception. In their 50 years as an organization, they have confronted barriers, obstacles, and successes that have driven forward Reproductive Justice in Waterloo Region, and are deeply connected to the larger Reproductive Justice movement across Canada. SHORE Centre’s 50th anniversary came in the same year as the overturning of Roe vs. Wade in the United States and has all of us wondering, how are we affected by the continued barriers to services in North America?

This project brings together SHORE Centre alumni, staff and volunteers, and youth in the Waterloo Region community to bridge past and future voices. The culmination is a project embedded with collaboration.
